Education
Dr. Barton completed medical school at State University of New York, Stony Brook, in 2001. She completed her internal medicine residency (2001-2004) and chief residency (2004-2005) at the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. She was then a Rheumatology Clinical Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (2005-2008). Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Barton joined the faculty of the Division of Rheumatology at UCSF (2008).

Research
Dr. Barton’s primary research interest involves the examination of patient-physician communication in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the roles of literacy and English language proficiency in predicting differential outcomes in RA . She is currently working with other investigators involved with the UCSF Rheumatoid Arthritis Cohort.
